Not Your Average Protein Shake

Not Your Average Protein Shake

I’ve lived in Nashville for several years now, but I was born and raised in Louisiana. Cajuns tend to have cooking in their DNA, and I like to think I do as well. Even though these recipes aren’t spicy, they sure do have a Kick-Your-Cravings-To-The-Curb quality about them! One of my favorite Cajuns in the world is my dad, Glenn. He’s such a good cook that most people will eat things they don’t normally eat when he cooks it. I may not be up to his caliber (yet!), but I did inherit the Never-Follow-A-Recipe-Exactly-Right gene from him. Being an avid fitness/health lover, I’ve always been fascinated with adapting recipes to make them healthier. And through that fascination, I ended up experimenting with these protein shake flavors! Whether you've worked out hard core and want to replenish your body, or kick that late night sweet tooth to the curb, these dessert inspired shakes can do the trick!

Peach Cobbler

Ingredients:

1 serving of any Vanilla Protein (1-2 scoops depending on brand)

8-10 oz of any unsweetened liquid of your choice (almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, etc.)

Sprinkle or two of Cinnamon (add desired amount depending on your love of cinnamon)

1-2 packets of Stevia or Truvia (steer clear of the blue, pink and yellow packets that contain aspartame)

½ - 1 Cup of Frozen Peaches

½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract (optional, but yummy if you’ve got it)

Pinch of salt (optional, but salt can actually enhance the sweetness of any dessert)

Berry Good Cheesecake

½ cup of Greek yogurt

½ cup of cottage cheese

½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract (optional, but yummy if you’ve got it)

½ -1 Cup of frozen berries (my favorite is strawberries)

Handful of crust (try using things like flax seed, granola , rolled oats or graham crackers for texture)

1-2 packets of Stevia or Truvia (steer clear of the blue, pink and yellow packets that contain aspartame)

Pinch of salt (optional, but salt can actually enhance the sweetness of any dessert)

Cinnamon Rolls

1 Cup of Rolled Oats

1 tsp of Cinnamon (A little more or less can be added depending on your love of cinnamon.)

½ tsp of Pure Vanilla Extract

¼ Cup of Pecans

1 Frozen Banana (Adds texture to the shake!)

1-2 packets of Stevia or Truvia (Steer clear of the blue, pink and yellow packets that contain aspartame.)

Pinch of salt (Optional, but salt can actually enhance the sweetness of any dessert.)

Pinch of Brown Sugar

Orange Creamsicle

Ingredients:

½- 1 Cup of Greek Yogurt OR 1-2 scoops Vanilla Protein Powder

8-10 oz of Unsweetened Liquid Of Your Choice (Almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, etc.)

1-2 packets of Stevia or Truvia (Steer clear of the blue, pink and yellow packets that contain aspartame.)

½ tsp of Pure Vanilla Extract
